Union falls on road at Lee, 3-1

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Union University volleyball team fell on the road to Lee University 3-1 on Tuesday night.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Both teams opened the first set with back and forth action with Union just one point behind at 11-12 halfway through the match.
  • Lee then went on a 13-2 run to close the set with a 25-13 win.
  • In the second set, it was the Lady Bulldogs who got the momentum jumping out to an early 4-1 lead. 
  • Lee worked their way back into the set, tying the score 13-13.
  • Neither team garnered more than a three point lead until late in the match when a kill from Katie O'Malley put Union ahead 21-17.
  • Lee once again worked their way back into the set tying the game and trading points until two errors by the Flames gave Union the set, 26-24.
  • The third set Lee jumped out to a 9-4, but Union stayed in the match and pulled within three points, 12-9, with another kill from O'Malley.
  • Lee then went on an 8-2 run to lead late in the third set 20-11. Lee finished the set with another 5-2 run to take a two sets to one lead in the match.
  • Union got out to the lead in the fourth set 6-4 with a kill from senior Deja Moorer, but surrendered five straight points to the Flames.
  • Lee finished out the set on a 11-2 run to take the match.

  • With 36 assists in the match, senior Hannah Huguley is only three assists away from 2,000 in her career.

 
POSTMATCH STATS
  • Deja Moorer led Union with 16 kills in the match, marking a season high for the senior.
  • Katie O'Malley led the Bulldogs in digs in the match with 17, a career high for the freshman hitter.
  • Abbie Rahn and Taylor Chiaro each had aces in the match and McKenna Carter led the way with two blocks.
  • Lee was led by Silvia Sartori with 20 kills while Sadie Johnson earned 24 assists in the match.
