JACKSON, Tenn. – The Lady Bulldog volleyball team defeated the University of Alabama Huntsville 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-16). Union improved to 4-7 overall, and 3-2 in Gulf South Conference play. The Lady Chargers dropped to 11-3 and 2-3 in conference play.
Union and Alabama Huntsville kept the score close in the first set. The Lady Chargers only took the set by two points. The second set, Alabama Huntsville and the Lady Bulldogs played close again. Union led 18-11 when the Lady Chargers went on a 4-0 run bringing them back in striking distance. After the Lady Bulldogs broke serve, the possession of the ball switched frequently between teams. Union pulled away to get the set win.
In the third set, Union led Alabama Huntsville early. The Lady Bulldogs held their lead until the Lady Chargers came back to tie the score at 14-14. Union fought back to regain the lead. A late five point run by the Lady Bulldogs was key in their second set win.
The fourth set was much of the same for Union and Alabama Huntsville. The set remained close until the Lady Bulldogs jumped ahead six points bringing the score to 20-14. Union dominated the rest of the set only allowing the Lady Chargers to score twice. The set win gave the Lady Bulldogs the match victory.
Elise Seufert led the way with 18 digs for Union.
Hannah Huguley added 44 assists, and
Ceciley Blanchard pounded 13 kills. Alabama Huntsville was led by Olivia Bauman with 10 kills, and Kirsten Giles led with 27 assists and 17 digs.
The Lady Bulldogs start a three game road streak started with Valdosta State University October 2. Union will return October 9 against the University of West Alabama and October 10 against the University of West Georgia for a weekend home series.
