VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Lady Bulldog volleyball team fell to Valdosta State University Lady Blazers 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-14). The Lady Blazers hold their perfect record of 11-0, and 6-0 in Gulf South Conference play. Union dropped to 4-8 on the season, and 3-3 in conference play.
The Lady Bulldogs held with Valdosta most of the first set. At one point, Union went on a 6-0 run taking the lead 18-11. The Lady Blazers answered the Lady Bulldogs with their own six point run bringing them within one point of Union. Later in the set, Valdosta scored five straight points taking a late lead over the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Blazers held that momentum taking the set.
The second set, Union and Valdosta kept the score close again. Possession of the ball switched between the teams very often. Valdosta held the lead at 21-17 late in the set, but the Lady Bulldogs fought back bringing the score to 21-20 in favor of the Lady Blazers. Valdosta then scored four consecutive points to win the set.
The Lady Bulldogs stayed with the Lady Blazers early in the set much like the previous two sets. Valdosta held a 10-6 lead Union scored three points to bring the score to 10-9, but the Lady Blazers caught fire and pulled away with the win.
Hannah Huguley led with 24 assists for the Lady Bulldogs.
Ceciley Blanchard added 9 kills and 16 digs. Valdosta was led by Lea Jaklen with 14 kills, Jessica Codato with 31 assists, and Natalia Campos with 18 digs.
Union travels to the University of West Florida to take on the Lady Argonauts October 3 at 2 pm. The Lady Bulldogs next home game will be October 9 against the Lady Tigers of the University of West Alabama at 7 pm.
