JACKSON, Tenn. – In a non-conference meeting between the two Gulf South Conference men's soccer programs, No. 13 Christian Brothers University topped Union University 2-1. Union had their two-game winning streak snapped to fall to 2-3 on the season. CBU improved to 5-0.
These two teams will meet again at Christian Brothers October 30 with the match counting as a GSC match.
Christian Brothers scored first in the 23
rd minute of play on a goal from Samuel Wilson that found the bottom left corner of the net. He was assisted by Devon Jackson. The score remained 1-0 at halftime. Union outshot CBU in the first half 9-6, but could not even the match.
In the second half, the Bucs extended their lead with what proved to be the game winning goal from Jannick Baumer in the 59
th minute of play. Wilson earned the assist.
Just six minutes later, Union got on the board with a goal from
Diogo Dias when he took a deflected shot from
Rodrigo Zonta and found the bottom right corner for the goal. Union again led the Bucs in shots 8-6 over the final 45 minutes. However, despite several good opportunities, Union could not get the game tying goal.

Clovis Simas said, "We played much better, organized soccer and we created a lot of chances. I'm feel certain we will be ready when we begin conference play next week."
Union outshot Christian Brothers 17-11 in the match, with the shots-on-goal being equal at six each.
Matt Kesler, the defending GSC Defender of the Week, recorded four saves allowing two goals. His counterpart, Britton McGuire of CBU had five saves in his 90 minutes in goal.
Lucas Lopes led Union with four total shots, while
Andre Silva led with two shots on goal.
Up next for Union will be another tough match September 20 against Upper Iowa University. Upper Iowa has been in the top-25 all season until this week when they dropped out of the top-25 to the 27
th spot in Division II. Game time is 1 p.m.
