Link to StatsLink to McClure InterviewJACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University volleyball team posted their first win of the season against the Lane College Dragons 3-0 (25-3, 25-8, 25-5) in their home opener. Union improved to 1-5, while Lane dropped to 0-11.
The Lady Bulldogs came out strong, and controlled the match from the start.
In the first set, Union started the game on 4-0 run. Then, after a kill by
Ceciley Blanchard, the Lady Bulldogs scored 10 straight points making it the longest run of the set. Union had an impressive six service aces and 10 kills.
During the second set, Union found themselves tied with the Lady Dragons 3-3 early in the game.
Christa Karns set the tone for the game breaking the tie with a kill coming from
Hannah Huguley. The Lady Bulldogs then went on an 8-0 run. The set was capped on with a kill by Blanchard.
The third set was much like the previous two. Union came out strong, and posted their longest run of the night scoring 14 points unanswered. The Lady Bulldogs ended the set with 12 total kills and nine assists from Huguley.
In the match, Union was led by
Casi Neff with 12 kills, Huguley with 23 assists, and
Elise Seufert with 7 digs.
Coming up for Union is their first Gulf South Conference contest taking on in state rival, Christian Brothers University, September 17 in Memphis, Tennessee. The Lady Bulldogs next home match will be September 22 when they take on Shorter University.
