McKENZIE, Tenn. – The Union University softball team posted a double-header sweep at Bethel University Wednesday afternoon. Union took the first game 8-0 behind a 1-hitter by
Kelly Robey. Union won the second game 13-3. Union is now 17-9 overall.
In the first game, senior pitcher Robey (13-6) tossed a 1-hitter over five innings for the shutout. Union scored six in the second inning and one each in the third and fifth to take the game in five innings. Sophomore
Hailey Cummings led the way, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Summer Cross led with three RBI. Robey had six strikeouts in her five innings of work.
The second game was all Union again from the start. Union scored four in the first and four more in the second to lead 8-0 after two innings. Union added a run in the fourth and four more in the fifth to lead 13-0. Bethel broke through for the first time on the day with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Carter Mansolino was 3-for-3 with two RBI including a 2-run home run in the game. Cross was 4-for-4, while
Reagan Schrader, Carlie Brickly and Cummings each added two hits. Schrader led with five RBI.
Paige Taylor (1-0) earned her first win of the year allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
Up next for Union will be a non-conference home double-header Friday versus Spring Hill (Ala.) before hosting conference foe, No. 21 North Alabama this weekend.
