JACKSON, Tenn.- The Union University women's basketball team earned win number 20 on the season after beating the University of West Florida 74-62 Saturday afternoon. The Lady Bulldogs improved to 16-3 in the Gulf South Conference, and 20-3 overall. The Argos fell to 14-5 in league play and 17-6 overall.

Union and West Florida came into the game sitting first and second place respectively in the Gulf South standings with the Lady Bulldogs holding a one game lead. Now with just three regular season games left to play, Union leads by two games over West Florida and three games over Delta State (Miss.).

The Lady Bulldogs and West Florida played a tight game early with the teams exchanging the lead six times in the first ten minutes. With the game tied and 9:55 on the clock, the Bulldogs went on a 10-1 run to lead by nine points. West Florida slowly chipped away to eventually lead Union by one point with 1:30 left before the half. Deanna Thompson then put in a layup to give the lead back to Union going into the half, 27-26.

After shooting only 34.5 percent from the field in the first half, the Lady Bulldogs turned things up in the second shooting 61.5 percent. Union held the lead for the rest of the game, leading by as many as 16 points in the second half. Union shot 62 percent from the field in the second half to dominate the play. Amy Philamlee scored 24 of her 25 points in the second half to lead Union after she missed the final eight minutes of the first half with foul trouble.

Philamlee led Union with 25 points, while
Kelsey Risner added 22 points. Risner drained 6-of-11Â from 3-point range. Philamlee led Union with seven assists.
DeAnna Thompson led the Lady Bulldogs in rebounds with 10, along with scoring nine points. Union shot a 47.3 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from behind the arc, and 67 percent (12-18) from the free throw line.

The Argos were led Kyla Muhammad with 19 points. Jasmine Wigfall added 13 and Toni Brewer scored 10. West Florida shot just 33.9% from the field and 25.0 (2-8) from 3-point range. The Argos sank 87 percent (20-23) of their free throws.
