Union volleyball drops fourth straight match

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Lady Bulldog volleyball team was swept by the University of West Florida Argonauts 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-18) Friday, November 6. Union sits at 8-18 on the season, and have a Gulf South Conference record of 7-10. West Florida, rank no. 23 in the nation, improved to 24-5, and are first in the GSC with a conference record of 16-1.
 
The Lady Bulldogs hung with the Argonauts in the opening rallies of the first set gaining a 6-4 lead with help from kills from Deja Moorer and Ceciley Blanchard, but West Florida hit their stride and went on two runs of four straight points and five points to lead 18-10. Union would regain in some points in the remaining rallies, but UWF would ultimately take the set 25-14.
 
The Argonauts continued their dominant play starting the second set with a 6-0 run. The Lady Bulldogs broke serve with a kill from McKenna Carter, but could not rally for more points. Later in the set, West Florida went on another 6-0 run to lead Union 16-4. The Lady Bulldogs gained some points back, but the Argonauts, for the third time, score six straight points to lead 24-9. Union got back a point by a service error on UWF, but West Florida put the set away 24-10.
 
The Lady Bulldogs stayed with UWF early in the third set. Tied 3-3, the Argonauts started to pull away from Union with two runs of three straight points and one run of four points to take the lead 13-6. The Lady Bulldogs started to make a comeback with a three point run of their own making the score 14-10 in favor of UWF, but then another 4-0 run by West Florida pushed the Argonauts to lead 18-10. Union tried to rally back, but was defeated 25-18.
 
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Moorer with seven kills, McKenna Carter with four total blocks, Hannah Huguley with 19 assists, and Elise Seufert with eight digs. Autumn Duyn led West Florida with 15 kills, and Monique StCyr added 31 assist to lead the Argonauts to victory.
 
Union will host its last home volleyball game of the season Saturday, November 7, at 12pm. The Lady Bulldogs will honor their lone senior, Seufert.
