Union men suffer second straight 1-0 loss

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Union University men's soccer team fell 1-0 at the University of Alabama Huntsville. Union dropped to 4-6 on the season and 2-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Alabama Huntsville improved to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in league play.

For Union, this was their second straight 1-0 loss. In fact, each of their last four losses have come by just one goal, two of those to ranked teams, all to teams with winning records.

In the first half, UAH led Union 4-3 in shots with neither team able to find the back of the net. Then, just seven minutes into play in the second half, UAH's Daniel Buchanan scored on an assist Alex Martinez. The shot from six yards out proved to be the game winner for the Chargers. UAH outshot Union 7-2 in the second half and 11-5 in the match. Union managed just one shot on goal in the match.

Matt Kesler had three saves for Union, while his counterpart Michael Winstone had one save in the shutout. Union's Diogo Dias and Andre Silva led with two shots each. Alabama Huntsville's Buchanan and Hermann Bjornsson led with four shots each.

Up next for Union is the first of three straight home matches when Mississippi College comes to Smith Soccer Complex Friday, October 9 at 7:15 p.m.
