HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Lady Bulldogs fell 3-0(25-22, 25-15, 25-18) to the University of Alabama Huntsville Lady Chargers October 30. Union dropped to 7-8 in Gulf South Conference play, and fell to 8-16 on the season. Alabama Huntsville improved to 17-11 on the season, and 8-7 in GSC play.
The Lady Bulldogs started off slow in the first set. Down 8-3, Union started to make a comeback, and got within one point of tying the Lady Chargers 12-11. However, the Lady Bulldogs were unable to get ahead of Alabama Huntsville. The Lady Charges increased their lead scoring three straight points, but again Union fought back within a point with the score at 17-16. The Lady Bulldogs failed to gain the lead again. Later in the set, Union was down 22-19 when the Lady Bulldogs rallied to score three straight points to tie Alabama Huntsville 22-22. The Lady Charges regained possession of the ball with a double block from Lorah Yonce and Haley Snyder. Alabama Huntsville used that momentum to push past Union 25-22 to end the first set.
The second set was tough for the Lady Bulldogs. Union could not find their momentum. With the Lady Chargers continuing their dominant play, the Lady Bulldogs could not catch a break. Union fell 25-15, putting them behind Alabama Huntsville 2-0.
The Lady Bulldogs found some fire in the third set. Down 6-5, Union went on a 4-0 run to take the lead over the Lady Chargers 9-6. Later in the set, the Lady Bulldogs led 11-9 when Alabama Huntsville went on a 4-0 run of their own to take back the lead 13-11. Union fought back to tie the Lady Chargers 14-14. Then, Alabama Huntsville ran away with a 7-0 run, and led the Lady Bulldogs 21-14. Trying to push a fourth set, the Lady Bulldogs tried to come back, but the Lady Chargers took the third set win 25-18.
Deja Moorer led Union with nine kills and 10 digs.
Hannah Huguley had 21 assists on the night, and
McKenna Carter added five blocks. Alabama Hunstville was led by Anna Claire Johnson with 11 kills, Kirsten Giles with 27 assists, and Haley Hop with 14 digs.
Up next, Union will play at the University of North Alabama October 31 at 2pm. The Lady Bulldogs will then return home for matches against the University of West Florida November 6 at 7pm, and Valdosta State University November 7 (Senior Day) at 12pm.
