ROME, Ga. – The Lady Bulldog volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 26-24) to the Shorter University Lady Hawks October 27. The loss breaks a three-game winning streak for Union. The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 8-15 on the season with a 7-7 record in conference play. Shorter improved to 12-8 with a conference record of 10-4.
In the first two sets, Union could not seem to find their groove. The Lady Bulldogs totaled 22 attacking errors in the first two sets compared to the Lady Hawks 7 attacking errors. Shorter used Union's early struggles to take a 2-0 lead going into the third set.
The Lady Bulldogs finally found some momentum in the third set. The score remained close all of the set, switching possessions often. Union led 23-21, but Shorter scored two points to tie the set at 23-23. Then, the Lady Bulldogs took a timeout to try and break the momentum of the Lady Hawks. Coming back to play,
Ceciley Blanchard pounded a kill to bring Union within one point of forcing a fourth set, but a 3-0 run by Shorter spoiled the Lady Bulldogs chance.
Casi Neff led Union with 10 kills, and
Hannah Huguley added 20 assists to her season totals.
Elise Seufert led the team with 13 digs, and was followed by Blanchard and
Deja Moorer with 10 digs each.
The Lady Bulldogs will play at the University of Alabama Huntsville Friday, October 30 at 7pm, and at the University of North Alabama Saturday, October 31 at 2pm. Union will return home for a weekend conference series against the University of West Florida November 6 and Valdosta State University (Senior Night) November 7.
