JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's soccer team dropped both road matches over the weekend including a 1-0 loss at Shorter (Ga.) University and a 1-0 loss at Lee University. Union dropped to 4-12-1 overall and 4-6-1 in the Gulf South Conference.
In the match at Shorter, Union and Shorter played a scoreless first half. Union outshot Shorter 10-1 in the first half, but could not managed a goal. Then in the 67th minute, Shorter scored the lone goal of the match on a shot from Jen Rogers, assisted by Corrie Thomas. Union outshot Shorter for the match, 17-9, including 4-3 in shots on goal.
Honeye Heydari led Union with six shots.
Kristen Francis had two saves and just one goal allowed in the loss.
Lee, the top team in the GSC, waisted no time in getting their first goal against Union in the second match of the weekend. Lee scored in the second minute of play when Lauren Peters scored on a header, assisted by Summer Lanter. That was the only goal of the game. Lee outshot Union 9-2 in the first half and 18-6 in the match, including 8-2 in shots on goal. Union's six shots came from six different individiuals. Francis had seven saves and just one goal allowed in another tough loss.
Up next for Union will be the final regular season match of the year, Friday, October 30 at Christian Brothers. Union is in a must win situation as they are in seventh place with the top six teams only advancing to GSC Tournament. Union is three points out of sixth place and must win to have a chance to advance.
