JACKSON, Tenn.-The Union University (8-14, 7-6 GSC) earned their fourth straight GSC shutout with the 3-0 win over Mississippi College (2-21, 1-11 GSC) Friday night.Union got things rolling early in the first set starting off to a 12-6 lead forcing the Choctaws to call a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Union rattled off six straight points with the help of four errors by Mississippi College to hold an 18-6 lead. The Lady Bulldogs only allowed two more points in the set to roll to a 25-8 victory.
The second match was much closer as MC found their stride. The two teams traded points to be tied 8-8 when Union had a five point run with kills from
Ceciley Blanchard and
Deja Moorer. However, the Choctaws answered with a five point run of their own to tie the set at 13-13. Later in the set the Choctaws led the Lady Bulldogs 21-20 when Union got the ball back on an attack error and
Hannah Huguley had back to back service aces the boosted Union to the 25-22 victory for a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Lady Bulldogs took control of the third set early jumping out to a 12-3 lead to begin the set with seven of those points coming from kills from
Casi Neff and Blanchard. MC would make a comeback in the late in the set cutting a 22-12 Union lead to only five points courtesy of errors from Union, but the Lady Bulldogs rallied back to finish off the match in three straight sets with a 25-17 win.
Up next for Union will be a trio of road games starting with Shorter on Tuesday night and then traveling to Alabama Huntsville and North Alabama next weekend. The Lady Bulldogs last two home games will be against the two top teams in the conference with #20 West Florida coming to Jackson on Friday, November 6th, at 7:00 p.m. and then Valdosta State on November 7th at noon.
