Union Volleyball blanks Lee 3-0

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Lady Bulldog volleyball team swept Lee 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-13) to improve their conference record to 5-6 and overall record to 6-14. The Lee University Lady Flames dropped to 4-7 in Gulf South Conference play and 8-12 overall.
 
The first set was a battle between Union and Lee. There were 10 lead changes in the set, and the score was tied 18 times. The Lady Bulldogs tied the Lady Flames 20-20, but a kill by Lee's Blaire Beamer gave the Lady Flames a one point lead. Union answered back with two points of their own with a kill by Deja Moorer and a double-block by Moorer and McKenna Carter. With the Lady Bulldogs leading 22-21, the Lady Flames's Brooke Wilsman got two consecutive kills to take a one point lead. Union tied the score again, with a kill by Moorer, but another kill by Wilsman put Lee ahead. Facing match point, the Lady Bulldogs rallied with three straight points to take the set.
 
Union started on top in the second set with a 3-0 run, but the Lady Flames slowly came back to tie the score 8-8. Then, the Lady Bulldogs pulled ahead with a three point lead. Lee responded with two points, but Union then went on a 4-0 run to give the Lady Bulldogs a five point lead. Later in the set, the Lady Flames led Union 22-21, but the Lady Bulldogs went on a decisive 3-0 run to push ahead of Lee 24-22. A kill by Ceciley Blanchard capped on the second set win for Union.
 
The Lady Bulldogs kept their momentum going into the third set. Union dominated the whole set, never letting the Lady Flames tie or take a lead. The Lady Bulldogs had an impressive 16 kills in the set, while Lee only managed five. Union won the set 25-13, and the Lady Bulldogs broke a three game losing streak with the match win.
 
As a team, Union had an impressive 13 blocks and 44 kills on the night. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Carter and Casi Neff with six blocks each. Moorer and Abby Schebel helped the team with their nine kills respectively. Moorer added 12 digs, while Hannah Huguley had 35 assists to help Union get the win.
 
The Lady Bulldogs will continue their home stretch with conference matches against Christian Brothers University October 22 at 7pm and Mississippi College October 23 at 7pm.
