CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Union University Lady Bulldog volleyball team went 0-3 in the South Region Crossover tournament held October 16-17. The University of West Georgia hosted the tournament which had 11 teams from the Sunshine State Conference and 11 teams from the Gulf South Conference. Union's record dropped to 5-14 on the season.
In the first match, October 16, the Lady Bulldogs faced the Lynn University Lady Knights. Union was defeated 3-1 (25-16, 25-15, 22-25, 25-19) in the match. The third set, for the Lady Bulldogs, was the lone set win on the day. Union was behind early in the set, but fought back to take the lead over Lynn 14-12 with a key 4-0 run. The Lady Bulldogs maintained the lead the rest of the set. Union forced a fourth set, but could not keep the momentum to push the match to a fifth set. In the match, Union was led by
Abby Schebel with nine kills,
Hannah Huguley with 24 assists,
Casi Neff with four blocks, and
Elise Seufert with 16 digs.
The Lady Bulldogs faced the Saint Leo University Lady Lions in their second match of the day, October 16. Union fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-16). Saint Leo had 36 kills in the match, while Union had only 14. The Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Lions were even in blocks with five each. Union was led by Seufert with 12 digs and Huguley with 12 assists.
October 17, the Lady Bulldogs faced off against the Lady Sharks of Nova Southeastern University. Union lost the match 3-2 (21-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-13). The Lady Bulldogs won the first two sets, but were unable to clinch the match win. In the first set, Union started off slow, but gained some momentum to take a 7-5 early lead. The lead changed many times throughout the set. A key timeout taken by Union, when the Lady Bulldogs were down 19-18, was a turning point in the set. Union went on a late 4-0 run to pull ahead of Nova, and pull out the first set win.
The Lady Bulldogs held the lead most of the second set. Union would allow the Lady Sharks to come back and tie, but Nova could never get the lead. By the end of the set, the Lady Bulldogs slowly pulled away from the Lady Sharks getting the set win 25-20.
Nova won the next two sets, forcing the match to a fifth set. The Lady Sharks and Union were evenly matched throughout the final set, changing possessions very often. Nova scored three straight points late in the set to give them the lead at 13-11. The Lady Bulldogs could not answer the Lady Sharks late push, and gave Nova the set and match win.

Deja Moorer with 15 kills,
McKenna Carter with five blocks, Huguley with 45 assists, and Seufert with 26 digs.
Up next, the Lady Bulldogs start a three game home stretch. First, Union will take on Lee University October 20 at 6pm. October 22, the Lady Bulldogs will face Christian Brothers University at 7pm, and Mississippi College October 23 at 7pm.
