JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's soccer team fell 2-0 at home to Delta State University. Union dropped to 4-7-1 on the season and 2-3-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Delta State improved to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in league play.
Delta State waisted no time getting the match's first goal when Austin Jackman deflected in a pass from Daniel Deblaere to the lower left corner of the goal. Then, just five minutes later, Delta State scored again. Anthony Fernandez stole a pass at midfield and took the ball all the way in for a shot into the right corner.
Fernandez led DSU with two shots. Union's Lucas Lopes led Union with four shots. Andra Silva added three shots.
Union outshot Delta State 14-5 in the match with shots on goal even at four each. Union's Matt Kesler had two saves, while Jacob Hauenstein has four saves for the Statesmen.
Union has a nine day layoff before their next game, Tuesday, October 20 versus non-conference Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) at 5 p.m. at Union.
