JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University Lady Bulldog volleyball team swept the University of West Georgia Wolves 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-19). This win breaks a four game losing streak for the Lady Bulldogs. Union improved to 4-6 in Gulf South Conference play, and are now 5-11 on the season. West Georgia dropped to 3-12 overall and 0-10 in conference play.
The Lady Bulldogs were down 4-2, in the first set, when they went on an 8-0 run. With their lead at 10-4, Union dominated the rest of the set. Union posted 14 kills in the match, and
Elise Seufert had an impressive five service aces to lead the Lady Bulldogs to their first set win.
Union continued their dominant play in the second set. The Lady Bulldogs jumped on top, and stayed there. Union's longest possession of the set came with Seufert serving. Seufert added two more services aces to her total on the day in the possession. Later in the set, Seufert was at the line again, and added another service ace. As a team, the Lady Bulldogs had a .450 attacking percentage in the second set.
The third set was a battle between Union and the Wolves. The Lady Bulldogs led 7-2 early in the set, but West Georgia slowly started to make a comeback. The Wolves came back to tie Union 14-14. The Lady Bulldogs found some fire, and scored four straight points to keep the lead. Union continued to pull away from West Georgia, and got the set and match win.
Union was led by Seufert with nine service aces. This was Seufert's career high for a single match. The Lady Bulldogs led West Georgia in total service aces with 16 to their five.
Hannah Huguley had 24 assists on the day.
Abby Schebel added 12 kills and eight digs to help Union to their win.
Next up for the Lady Bulldogs is the SSC Crossover Tournament in Carrollton, Georgia October 17-18. Union's next home match will be October 20 against Lee University at 6pm.
