PENSACOLA, Fla.- The Union University women's soccer team dropped their conference opener Friday night at the University of West Florida by the score of 2-0. The Lady Bulldogs fell to 2-3 in regular season play and 0-1 in Gulf South Conference play. West Florida improved to 4-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
The first half did not see a lot of action for either side as both teams entered halftime at 0-0. West Florida did out shoot Union 11-4 in the half.
West Florida scored their first goal shortly into the second half off of a corner kick from Sara Helgadottir that was headed in by April Syme in the 51
st minute. West Florida scored their second goal of the game in the 65
th when Daryl Bell hit a shot from midfield that deflected down off the crossbar.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kristen Francis recorded nine saves in the match for Union.
Sara Johnson and
Kayleigh Patterson led Union with two shots on target each.
