JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's soccer team got their first win of the season Friday night in a 3-1 victory over Oakland City (Ind.) University. Union improved to 1-1 overall, while Oakland City dropped to 3-2.
The Bulldogs jumped to an early lead after
Guilherme Dorigo netted a goal in the 19
th minute of play on a flawless pass through the defense from
Zach Crane, who earned the assist. The second goal came courtesy of the
Paul Langford in the 28
th minute to boost Union to and early 2-0 lead.
Oakland City's lone goal came from a penalty kick from Alijosa Stankovic after a foul in the box. It was
Taylor Smith's only goal allowed on the night, he also had two saves while facing six shots.
The final goal for Union came in the 72
nd minute off the foot of
Alex Pratt into the bottom right corner of the net.
Rodrigo Zonta earned the assist after a perfectly placed pass to the feet of Pratt.
Union led the match in shots on goal with eight to Oakland City's three.
Up next for Union is a friendly Alumni game against former players of the program. That game will take place on Saturday, September 13, at 11:00 a.m. The next regular season game will feature the Bulldogs facing off against Christian Brothers on Tuesday, September 16
th in Memphis.
