JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's basketball team posted an 88-54 win over Robert Morris University – Springfield in an exhibition game Saturday at Union's Fred DeLay Gymnasium. The game was also Homecoming for Union as well.
Union took an early double-digit lead, but saw their lead cut down to down to eight points midway through the half. However, Union shot their way back to a double figure and never looked back. Union shot 7-of-19 (37%) from long range in the first half and led 41-26 at the break.
Union sank seven more 3-pointers in the second half and shot 59 percent from the field to push the final score to 88-54.
Union was led by
DeAnna Thompson with 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field.
Amy Philamlee added 17 points and dished out 10 assists.
Kelsey Risner scored 14 points with four 3-pointers and 10 rebounds. Newcomer
Jordan Johnson added a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Union shot 51 percent from the field, 42 percent (14-33) from long range, and 50 percent (4-8) from the free throw line.
Robert Morris was led by Brandi Brandley with 23 points and MarQuichea Burns with 22 points, both players hitting three 3-pointers. The Eagles shot 42 percent from the field, 27 percent (6-22) from 3-point range, and 67 percent (10-15) from the free throw line.
