Union men's basketball shoots past Spring Hill

ROME, Ga.- The Union University men's basketball team took down Spring Hill (Ala.) College 75-60 Saturday evening. Union improved to 2-0 on the season, while Spring Hill fell to 0-2.
 
After beating Lemoyne-Owen by 33 points of Friday, Union was able to carry that momentum in Saturday's game by jumping to an early lead 21 point lead over Spring Hill in the first half. Spring Hill was able to mount a comeback throughout late in the first half to cut the halftime deficit to 44-33.
 
Union shot 52 percent from the field in the first half, including 50 percent (9-18) from 3-point range. 

Union kept up that same pace throughout the second half. The smallest lead the Bulldogs had in the second half came with 17:55 left in the half when Spring Hill pulled within five points. Union did not let up throughout the rest of the game to win by 15, 75-60.
 
Union was lead by junior transfer Jordan Montgomery with 22 points. Ashanti Day added 19 points, Corieon Pearson scored 15 points, and Pedro Faller added 11 points. Montgomery drained four 3-pointers, while Pearson and Faller hit three each. Union shot 46.9% from the field and 43.3% from 3-point range, and 84 percent (16-19) from the free throw line.
 
Robert Drummond led the Badgers with 16 points and James Clark added 14 points. Spring Hill shot 47 percent from the field, 47 percent (7-15) from long range, and 69 percent from the free throw line. 

Spring Hill out rebounded Union 28-26.

Up next for Union will be a non-conference match-up against Rust (Miss.) College Wednesday, November 19, at 7:00 p.m. at Fred Delay Gymnasium in Jackson, Tenn.
