CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Union University women's soccer team fell 2-1 at Delta State University Tuesday afternoon. This match was a make-up game from a rainout earlier in the season. Union dropped to 3-12 on the season and 1-10 in the Gulf South Conference. Delta State improved to 3-11 overall and 1-9-1 in league play.
Union and Delta State played a scoreless first half, with the Lady Statemens holding a slim 8-7 advantage on shots.
In the second half, Union held the shot advantage 7-4. However, Delta State was able to convert two of their four shots into goals. Delta State scored first in teh 56th minute ona goal from Tais Cotta. Then just four minute later, added the second and game-winning goal when Erin Tucker found the back of the net. Tabitha Hayden recorded the assist on both goals.
Union got on the board late when
Bonna Hardee bounced a shot of the post that found the net in the 81st minute of play.
Abby Taylor earned the assist.
Emily Waggoner recorded three saves in her 90 minutes of work, while her counterpart, Katie Swaine had four saves.
Kelsey Wilkes led Union with five shots in the match.
Up next for Union will be their final game of the season, a home match Friday,October 31 at 5:00 p.m. versus Christian Brothers University. This will also be senior night for Union.
