JACKSON, Tenn.- The Union University women's volleyball team fell to the University of West Florida 3-2 Saturday afternoon. Union dropped to 2-13 in Gulf South Conference play and 7-20 overall. West Florida improved to 12-3 in conference, holding to the No. 2 spot, and 19-6 overall.

West Florida might have come into the match with an impressive 18-6 record, but that did not phase Union in the first set. The Lady Bulldogs started the match off hot jumping out to a 5-0 lead and forcing West Florida to take a timeout. West Florida regrouped and led late in the set with a 24-21 lead, but the Lady Bulldogs were able to rally off five straight points to take the set 26-24.

Union kept up the pace early in the second set and stayed within range of West Florida, but as the set went on the Argonauts were able to gain ground and pull ahead to a comfortable lead of 17-8 and eventually go on to win the set 25-18.

The Lady Bulldogs came out for the third set with some momentum. Union was able to mount a lead after the third point of the game that would not be broken for the rest of the set. The Lady Bulldogs led the match 201 after a 25-20 third set victory.

Union came out a bit flat at the beginning of the fourth set trailing for the majority of the set. West Florida was able to mount a 19-13 lead midways through the set, but Union rallied all the way back to within two points to make it 24-22. After a timeout, West Florida took the set 25-22 to force a fifth and deciding set.

Union jumped out to 4-0 lead in the final set of the match and at the halfway point lead West Florida 8-5. However, West Florida was able to rally back to win the set 15-11 and take the match.

Union was lead by
Savannah Hughes with 16 kills and
Deja Moorer with 15. Hannah Huguely lead in the assists category with 26 while
Lydia Wright tallied 21.

Up next for the Lady Bulldogs will be another conference game against North Alabama on Tuesday, October28th, at 7:00 p.m. in Florence, Ala.
