WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Union University volleyball team lost four matches this weekend at the Rollins College South Region Crossover Volleyball Classic. Friday's matches included losses to Nova Southeastern (Fla.) 3-0 and Rollins 3-0. Saturday had Union dropping a closely played match to Florida Tech 3-1 and then Lynn 3-0.
In the loss to Nova Southeastern, Union led just once in the first set and forced just four ties during the rest of the match. Union fell 25-17, 25-17, and 25-22.
Mallory Baker led with 10 kills,
Hannah Huguley led with 18 assists, and
Elise Seufert led with 13 digs.
Host Rollins topped Union 25-16, 25-15, 25-12. In the first set, Union and Rollins went back and forth with four ties and three lead changes before Rollins took control. Union did not lead for the remainder of the match. Baker's six kills led the way for Union. Huguley led with 13 assists, Seufert had the team's only ace and led with 17 digs.
In the closest match of the weekend, Union and Florida Tech played the first set with seven ties and six lead changes before Florida Tech won 26-24. Union responded and to control the second set in a 25-18 win. Rollins then answered back to control the third set to win 25-18. The fourth set was close with seven ties and two lead changes before Florida Tech took the match with a 26-24 win.
Deja Moorer led with 15 kills, while Huguley added 10 kills. Huguley and
Lydia Wright posted 18 and 17 assists respectively, while
Kristin Cook led with three aces. Carter had six blocks.
Union managed early leads in the three sets versus Lynn but was unable to make then hold up as the Lady Bulldogs fell 25-17, 25-14, 25-9.
McKenna Carter and Moorer led with five kills each.
Up next for Union will be a non-conference tri-match at home, Tuesday, October 21 versus Fisk (Tenn. and Williams Baptist (Ark.) at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
