Union holds off West Florida for 1-0 win

Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – Hitting the road for five of their next six matches, each in Gulf South Conference play, the Union University men's soccer team started the stretch with a 1-0 win at the University of West Florida. Union moved to 3-1-1 overall, 2-1-1 in the Gulf South Conference. West Florida dropped to 3-2 on the season and 2-1 in the GSC.

A corner kick by Alex Pratt found Clayton Martin, who delivered a shot in the 19th minute. Martin followed his attempt for a rebound goal to put the Bulldogs on top. Two cards on Union's Krister Andreassen by the 24th minute of play put Union a man down for the final 66 minutes of play.

While the Bulldogs used clock management when possessing the ball in the second half, the Argos went on the offensive taking 13 shots. Matt Kesler played a vital role in the victory, with five of his six saves after Union became shorthanded. 

Match statistics were heavy in favor of West Florida as Union played defensively. West Florida took 26 shots, Union managed six shots. Martin took four of the Bulldogs six shots. Chip Crockarell, Jamie Fox, Martin and Cody Styx each played the entire 90 minutes for Union.

Next up for Union is a match at West Alabama (Livingston, Ala.), Sept. 22 at 1:00 p.m.
