JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University men's soccer team played Lee (Tenn.) University to a 1-1 tie in double overtime Friday night. Union now is 2-0-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Lee is 1-1-1 and 0-0-1 in league play.
The beginning half of the first conference match of the season for each school was played to a stalemate, 0-0. The Flames took a 1-0 advantage with a goal by Arturo Rocha on a feed from Jonathan Perelman in the 55th minute. In the 57th minute Alex Pratt delivered a pass from Joe Shultz into the back of the net to pull Union even, 1-1.
In the contest, Lee took 17 shots, Union registered 14. The Bulldogs had seven corner kicks to the Flames four. Matt Kesler made seven saves for Union. Tom Halsall of Lee stopped six shots.
Union returns to action, Sunday versus Shorter (Ga.) University with a 4:00 p.m. start time at the Smith Soccer Complex.
