Box Score

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Union University women's basketball earned a tough road victory Thursday night at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Union improved to 17-6 on the season and a league best 12-3 in the Gulf South Conference. Alabama-Huntsville dropped to 11-15 on the season and 8-8 in league play.

Union has won three straight games and are 15-3 since starting the year 2-3. This game was only the second time on the year that Union has allowed 70 points on the season. The other time was a 77-67 loss to Delta State back on January 3.

Union controlled a slight lead for most of the first 10 minutes of play before UAH took a 16-15 lead at the 8:48 mark. The teams swapped leads for the rest of the half before Union got a layup from Astrid Huttemann with 36 seconds left in the half. That basket gave Union a 31-30 lead at the break.

Alabama-Huntsville opened the second half with a 7-2 run to take a four point lead, their largest of the game. However, Union answered to regain the lead at 38-37 just moments later. The game was back and forth and with 10 minutes to play, the game was tied for the ninth and final time at 51-51. Union's Huttemann hit a layup to put the Lady Bulldogs up for good.

Huttemann led all scorers in the game with 26 points, including 17 in the second half. Huttemann became the fifth different player in the last five games for Union to post at least 20 points in a game (Riser 23 vs. West Florida, Rechis 26 vs. Delta State, Coney 23 vs. Christian Brothers, Philamlee 27 vs. North Alabama, and Huttemann 26 vs. Alabama-Huntsville).

After Union took the lead for good at 53-51, the Lady Bulldogs extended their lead to as many as nine points twice down the stretch. UAH did not go away and pulled to within three points several times late, including 73-70 with seven seconds left. However, Union's LaTesa McLaughlin sank a pair of free throws in the final seconds to seal the win. Union was 6-fot-6 from the free throw line in the final 30 seconds.

Union was led by Huttemann's career-high 26 points. She added 10 rebounds to get her second double-double of the season. Amy Philamlee added 16 points, including 12-of-13 from the free throw line. McLaughlin and Amber Rechis each added 11 points, while Paige Parker scored nine points.
