JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's basketball team posted a 66-46 win over the University of North Alabama Saturday afternoon at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union improved to 16-6 on the season and a league best 11-3 in the Gulf South Conference. North Alabama dropped to 16-8 overall and 9-5 in league play.
Union's defense forced 17 North Alabama turnovers in the game, getting 17 steals in the process. Union also held the Lions to 37 percent shooting from the field, including just 20 percent (2-of-10) from behind the arc. Union senior guard
LaTesa McLaughlin set a school record with eight steals in the first half for Union.

Amy Philamlee led all scorers with 27 points, 20 of which came in the second half.
Kelsey Risner was also key for Union with three 3-pointers in the first half as she finished the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Union scored first, but North Alabama answered with five straight points to lead 5-2. Union tied the game on a 3-pointer from Philamlee. Union took the lead for good, 8-7, on a 3-pointer from
Astrid Huttemann. Union made 11 3-pointers in the game, including 7-of-15 in the first half.
Hutteman's 3-pointer sparked a 12-0 run for Union that pushed the lead to double figures. North Alabama cut the deficit to seven points with four minutes left in the half, 18-11. However, it was Union closing out the half with an 11-4 run to lead 29-15 at the break.
Union maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game, with the lead hovering in the 20's for most of the second half. Union held their largest lead 26 points on three different occasions, the last coming 64-38 with a little over four minutes left. Union cruised down the stretch for the 66-46 final.
Union was led by Philamlee's 27 points. She was 3-of-4 from long range, and was 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Risner's double-double was her second of the season, and was 4-of-7 from 3-point range.
Amber Rechis added 11 points. McLaughlin finished with her first half school record total of eight steals, while adding seven assists. Union shot 38 percent from the field, 36 percent (11-31) from long range, and 81 percent (13-16) form the free throw line.
North Alabama was led by Jennifer Towne with 13 points and Nichelle Fillmore with 12 points. The Lions shot 37 percent from the field, 20 percent (2-10) from 3-point range, and 60 percent (12-20) from the free throw line.
