Union women’s soccer falls 4-1 to North Alabama

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the University of North Alabama. Union is 2-1 on the season, while North Alabama improved to 2-0.
 
North Alabama is the defending Gulf South Conference champions, and have  been tabbed as the favorite to repeat for the 2012 title.
 
This was Union's first game against one of their new conference opponents, however this game did not count towards the conference standings for either team. Their next meeting in Florence, Ala. on October 5 will serve as the conference game.
 
North Alabama wasted no time in taking the lead as Chloe Roberts scored in the fifth minute of play, assisted by Jennifer Osmond. Roberts was finished as she scored again in the 13th minute to put her team up 2-0. The Lions added a third goal, when Roberts and Osmond reversed rolls in the 40th minute. Osmond scored on a Roberts assists to put UNA up 3-0 at the half.
 
It was 4-0 when Roberts added her third goal of the match with 14 minutes left in the action. Union was able to spoil the shutout as Hannah Miller scored on an assist from Stefanie King in the 78th minute.
 
Emily Waggoner played all 90 minutes in goal for Union, allowing four goals and getting seven saves. Her counterpart, Schyler Arnold also played 90 minutes with one goal and no saves.
 
North Alabama outshot Union 12-7 in the match.
 
Up next for Union will be another home game, a conference match versus West Florida Friday, September 14 at 3:00 p.m.
