CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Union University women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win at Delta State University Friday afternoon. Union improved to 3-3-2 on the season, while Delta State dropped to 2-6 overall.
This match was against a Gulf South Conference opponent, however, it does not count towards the conference record for either team. On the women's soccer schedule, only one meeting versus conference opponents counts for league play. Union's conference counting game versus Delta State will take place at Union, Friday, October 12.
Union and Delta State played a scoreless first half, and remained scoreless until the 67
th minute of play.
Alex Taylor scored the game-winner on an assist from
Emily Crane to give Union the lead. In the 82
nd minute, Union's
Sarah Helton added an insurance goal for the Lady Bulldogs to set the final at 2-0.
Union's
Emily Waggoner recorded one save in her shutout performance. Union outshot Delta State 11-6 in the match, including 6-1 in shots on goal. Megan Galloway recorded four saves in her 90 minutes in goal for Delta State.
Up next for Union will be a match at home versus Christian Brothers University, Monday, October 1 at 5:00 p.m.
