ROME, Ga. – The Union University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Shorter (Ga.) University. Union moves to 2-2-2 on the season and 0-1-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Shorter is now 2-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in league play.
This marked the second straight double-overtime match for Union that ended in a tie. Union and West Alabama tied 2-2 last Friday.
Union scored first in the match in the 27
th minute on a goal from Mirah Davis, assisted by
Dionna Linn. Union maintained that 1-0 lead for the majority of the match. Then with just 10 minutes to play, Shorter's Brandi Greenwald scored to tie the match. Neither team was able to find the golden goal in the overtime periods.
Union outshot Shorter 9-3 in the first half. However, Shorter dominated the shot totals after that, leading 11-2 in the second half and 4-1 in the overtime periods, outshooting Union 18-12 for the match.
Both goalies played all 110 minutes, with Union's
Emily Waggoner recording eight saves and Shorter's Katie Stachula getting five saves.
Up next for Union will be a home conference match, Monday, September 24 at 5:00 p.m. versus Alabama-Huntsville.
