JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University men's soccer team tied the University of West Florida 1-1 in double-overtime Friday night at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Union goes to 1-1-2 on the season and 0-0-1 in the Gulf South Conference. West Florida is now 1-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in league play.
Union scored first just five minutes into the second half on a goal from
Alysson Mohl. For a while, Union seemed to be riding that 1-0 lead to their first conference victory. However, in the 80
th minute, West Florida tied the match on a goal from Stephen Munoz. His free kick from about 20 yards out curled just inside the left post.
Regulation ended, sending Union to their third straight overtime of the season in just four total matches. In the pair of overtime periods, West Florida outshot Union 4-1, but neither team could find the golden goal.
West Florida outshot Union 22-15 in the match.
Matt Kesler recorded six saves for Union, while Ramon Sealy got nine saves for West Florida. Both goalies played the full 110 minutes.
Up next for Union will be a pair of road conference matches at West Alabama September 16 and at Shorter (Ga.) September 22. Their next home match is versus conference foe Alabama-Huntsville September 24.
