JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's basketball team posted an 80-47 win over the University of Virginia-Wise Saturday at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union, winners of five straight games, improved to 7-3 on the season. Virginia-Wise dropped to 5-9 overall.
It has been Union's 3-point shooting that has sparked the Lady Bulldogs in their recent winning streak. During the five game streak, Union has made 67 3-pointers (13.4 per game).
In today's game, Union drained 10 3-pointers in the first half on their way to 14 made from long range in the game. Union jumped out quickly to a 30-6 lead over the first 13 minutes of play. LaTesa McLaughlin made Union's first 2-point field goal at the 6:48 mark.
Virginia-Wise scored their fourth point on at the 16:34 mark to cut Union's lead to 5-4. The Cavaliers when 11 minutes until their next field goal, which came at the 5:33 mark.
Union shot 63 percent from long range in the first half, making 10-of-16 3-pointers. Union was 54 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes. Union led by as many as 27 points in the first half, before taking a 46-21 lead into the break.

Rebecca Sharpe scored 12 points, all coming on her four 3-pointers.
Amy Philamlee sparked the offense with her nine points and nine assists. Ten of the 11 players for Union scored in the game, with seven different players hitting at least one 3-pointer. Union shot 47 percent from the field, 56 percent (14-25) from long range, and 70 percent (14-20) from the free throw line.
Virginia-Wise was led by Charlotte Reasor with 15 points, all coming on her five 3-pointers. Chelsea Cluesman scored 14 points, including 11 in the first half. The Cavaliers shot 36 percent from the field, 26 percent (7-27) from behind the arc, and 73 percent (8-11) from the free throw line.
Union will be off for the Christmas break with their next contest coming January 3 at home versus Gulf South Conference foe Delta State (Miss.).
