KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Union University men's soccer team took third place in the National Christian College Athlete Association (NCCAA) Men's Soccer National Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.) University. Union ends their season with a 13-4-4 record.
Union closed out the season winning 10 of their last 11 matches, allowing just three goals in those 11 matches.
The only scoring of the match came with
Guilherme Reis scored for Union in the 22
nd minute of the first half.
Alex Pratt earned the assist and Union's defense took over.
Union outshot Palm Beach Atlantic 8-5 in the match.
Rainer Pires earned one save in the shutout victory. For Union, this was their ninth shutout of the season and seventh for Pires.
Union finished a successful 2012 season with the second best record in the Gulf South Conference standings at 7-2-3. Not eligible for Gulf South or NCAA postseason because of the year-2 candidacy status, Union earned NCAA MidEast Region Title and a third place finish in the NCCAA National Tournament.
