KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Union University men's soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the National Christian College Athlete Association (NCCAA) Men's Soccer National Tournament. Union, seeded third in the tournament, defeated 6-seed Grace (Ind.) College 3-2 on penalty kicks after a 0-0 score through two overtimes.
This is Union's (12-3-4) eighth straight victory on the season. Grace ends their year at 13-5-3.
Jackson native
Alex Pratt scored the game-winning goal in the fifth round of PK's to give his team the 3-2 edge.
Guilherme Reis and
Cody Styx also recorded goals in the PK round.
Rainer Pires recorded seven saves in goal for Union. Collin Cone had five saves for Grace.
Grace outshot Union 16-12 in the match, including 5-1 in the first half and 4-1 in the second overtime. Union held a slim shots advantage in the second half (8-7) and first overtime (2-0).
Up next for Union will be a semifinal match Thursday at 4:00 p.m. versus 2-seed California Baptist University.
