Union women’s soccer ends season after semifinal loss

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Union University women's soccer team fell 1-0 at Campbellsville University in the semifinals of the NCCAA MidEast Region Tournament. Union finished the season 8-10-2, while Campbellsville improved to 11-8-1.
 
Union entered the region tournament as the #5 seed and knocked off #4 Bluefield (Va.) 2-0 to earn a spot in the semifinals to face top seeded Campbellsville.
 
Union outshot Campbellsville 9-5 in the match, including 7-1 in the first half. However, the match was scoreless at the half. in the second half, Campbellsville earned the shot advantage 4-2.
 
The only goal of the match came early in the second half when Campbellsville's Jessica Ralph found the net in the 58th minute of play. Bailey McDonough earned the assist.
 
Emily Waggoner, a freshman goalie, played every minute for Union in goal this season, recorded two saves in the loss. Brandie Hagerman got four saves in her shutout.
 
Of Union's 10 losses on the season, five have come by just one goal, including each of the last five losses. Each of the last four losses have all been by the score of 1-0.
 
Union ends their first season playing as a NCAA DII year-2 candidacy member school with promise as they move forward. Union finished with a 2-5-2 record in the Gulf South Conference this season, which puts them seventh out of 10 schools.
