JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's soccer team posted a 1-0 double-overtime win over Freed-Hardeman University Tuesday night at Smith Soccer Complex. Union improved to 5-5-2 overall, while Freed-Hardeman dropped to 3-7-2 on the season.
Union dominated the first half, outshooting Freed-Hardeman 10-1. However, the Lady Bulldogs were not able to find the back of the net. Abbey Adkins recorded two saves for Freed-Hardeman during the first half. Union won the shots battle 6-2 in the second half and 4-0 in the two overtime periods.
It was not until early in the second overtime that Union was able to break the scoreless tie.
Alex Taylor got a quick shot off right at the start of the overtime period for Union, but the fourth save of the night by Adkins of Freed-Hardeman kept the match going. But just a few seconds later, at the 100:34 mark,
Whitney Kramer was able to break free and score the goal for Union.
Emily Waggoner recorded no saves in the shutout as Freed-Hardeman managed just three shots, none on goal.
Madison Purdy led Union with six shots, while
Sara Johnson added four shots. Three different players for the Lady Lions totaled their three shots.
Up next for Union will be a home conference match, Friday, October 12 versus Delta State (Miss.) at 5:00 p.m.
