FLORENCE, Ala. – The Union University volleyball team dropped a road conference match 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-16) at the University of North Alabama. Union goes to 3-12 overall and 0-8 in the Gulf South Conference. North Alabama improved to 4-10 on the season and 3-4 in league play.
Union and North Alabama had both had slow starts to their seasons. However, North Alabama is playing better as of late, winning three of their last six matches, including a win over one of the co-leaders of the GSC.
The home Lions took control early and never looked back as Union fell in three sets.
Union was led by
Savannah Hughes with 10 kills.
Micaela Bailey was next highest with four kills.
Linsey Mirtsching (8) and
Lydia Wright (7) combined for 15 assists, Mirtsching led with two aces, Bailey led with nine digs, and Mirtsching led with four blocks.
North Alabama was led by Cara Gregg and Priscilla Massengale with 15 kills each. Hope Rayburn led with 34 assists, Taylor Chapman led with two aces, Caroline Neisler led with 20 digs and Massengale added five blocks.
Up next for Union will be a road non-conference match at Harding (Ark.) University October 11.
