FLORENCE, Ala. – The Union University women's soccer team had their hands full, but defensively kept the match close in a 3-1 road loss at No. 14 University of North Alabama. Union is 3-5-2 overall and 0-3-2 in the Gulf South Conference. North Alabama improved to 8-1-1 on the season and 3-1-1 in league play.
Union and North Alabama met earlier in the season at Union in a regular season match that did not count in the conference standings. North Alabama took that match 4-0.
North Alabama, who is undefeated at 4-0-1 in their last five matches, scored first in the 12
th minute of play. Jennifer Osmond scored on a Nikki Brown assist. The halftime score was 1-0 in favor of North Alabama. Union was outshout 8-0 in the first 45 minutes of play.
In the second half, UNA's Osmond and Brown paired up again to score and asisst on Osmond's second goal of the match in the 57
th minute. Just two minutes later, Union was able to get on the scoreboard when
Sara McHenry scored unassisted to get Union to within one goal. But shortly after, in the 65
th minute, North Alabama's Jo Chubb scored the third and final goal of the match. Brown recorded her third assist of the night.
Union was outshot 12-1 in the match, including 4-1 in the second half.
Emily Waggoner recorded four saves for Union in goal, while Morgan Grace of North Alabama recorded no saves.
Up next for Union will be a non-conference home match, Saturday, October 6 at 5:00 p.m. Asbury (Ky.).
