Christian Brothers rallies to top Union volleyball 3-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Union University volleyball team fell 3-1 (24-26, 25-11, 25-20, 25-15) Tuesday at Christian Brothers University. Union dropped to 4-22 on the season and 1-12 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers improved to 16-8 overall and 9-3 in league play, holding on to sole possession of second place in the conference standings.
 
Union jumped out to a fast start, winning a close first set that featured six ties and three lead changes. Christian Brothers led 21-15 and seemed to be in control. However, Union responded to win 11 of the final 14 points, including eight straight to claim the win.
 
But Christian Brothers proved they belonged as one of the top teams in the league, winning three straight sets to claim the match. In the second set, the Bucs led 17-10 before running off seven straight in route to the win.
 
The third set again had Christian Brothers leading 19-12, but Union responded with four straight points to pull back into the set. Union again got as close as three points, 23-20, but could not catch the Bucs.
 
In the fourth set, Union led 11-10 and looked to force a fifth and deciding set. However, Christian Brothers closed out the set and match by scoring 15 of the final 19 points, including a stretch of nine straight points.
 
Up next for Union will be their final home game of the season, Friday November 2 versus Arkansas-Monticello at 6:00 p.m. This will be senior night for Union before they close out the regular season with three straight road matches.
