JACKSON, Tenn.- The Union University women's soccer team defeated the University of West Georgia Monday afternoon. This win improved Union's overall record to 7-7-2 and their Gulf South Conference record to 2-5-2. West Georgia fell to 5-8-3 on the season and 2-4-2 in conference play.
Union scored their first goal off of a goal by
Dionna Linn in the 17
th minute of play. Less than two minutes later, the Lady Bulldogs struck again on a header by
Whitney Kramer from
Stefanie King's cross into the box. Union led 2-0 at the half.
The Lady Bulldogs scored once more late in the second half when
Sara Johnson scored her first goal of the season in the 81
st minute. Linn earned the assist.
Linn's goal was her team best seventh of the season. Kramer scored her fourth of the year, tied for second with King. King and Linn remained tied for team high in assists as they both have three on the season.
Union's
Emily Waggoner earned her fourth shutout on the season for Union. Waggoner recorded six saves in her 90 minutes of play improving to 80 saves on the season. Mary Laza took the loss for West Georgia, allowing three goals and recording two saves.
Union's next match will be against the University of Alabama-Huntsville in Huntsville on October 26 at 3:30 p.m.
