Conference leader Christian Brothers tops Union volleyball 3-0

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University volleyball team dropped their home match Tuesday 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-20) to Christian Brothers University. Union dropped to 3-11 on the season and 0-7 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers improved to 11-4 on the season and kept their spot at the top of the league standings with a 6-1 GSC mark.
                               
Union jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set, but could not hold it as the much taller Christian Brothers team gained control and cruised for the 25-15 win in the first set. The second set had Christian Bothers off to the fast start, leading 6-1 to start. Union rallied but never gained the lead in a 25-16 loss. The third and final set was much closer as Union battled back and forth early before falling 25-20.
 
Union was led Savannah Hughes with seven kills. Lauren Sprouse led with two aces, while Linsey Mirtsching and Lydia Wright had 10 and nine assists respectively. Elise Seufert led with eight digs and Kristen Cook led with six blocks.
 
Christian Brothers was led by Alison Welch with 10 kills and two aces. Hailey Gillis led with four blocks, Kelsey Miles led with 41 assists, and Corinne Doder led with 11 digs.
 
Up next for Union will be a road game at North Alabama Friday, October 5.
