Second half dooms Union in 3-0 loss to Christian Brothers

Box Score

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's soccer team lost 3-0 to Christian Brothers University Monday night at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Union dropped to 3-4-2 on the season, while Christian Brothers improved to 4-6 overall.

Despite being a match versus a Gulf South Conference opponent, this one did not count towards either team's conference record. Only one meeting per season in women's soccer counts in the standings. The counting match between these two teams takes place in Memphis October 14.

Tonight's match started as a defensive struggle, played under wet conditions and moments of drizzling rain. Christian Brothers managed just one shot in the first half, while Union did not get a shot off in the first 45 minutes.

The second half was slightly more offensively paced as Christian Brothers led the shots category 7-2.

The match was scoreless until Christian Brothers broke through in the 62nd minute. Kristen Guidry scored on an assist from Alex Bickenbach. Just three minutes later, the Bucs added a second goal when Jennifer Hale found the back of the net, assisted by Guidry. Christian Brothers added a final goal in the 87th minute when Mallory Geraci scored on an assist from Carmen Manes.

Emily Waggoner allowed all three goals for Union in her 90 minutes in goal with one save. Her counterpart, Libby Hake had one save in the shutout performance for Christian Brothers.

Up next for Union will be a road conference match Friday, October 5 at North Alabama at 7:00 p.m.
