Darrin McClure

Darrin McClure is entering his seventh year as head volleyball coach for Union. McClure came to Union in 2015 after serving as head coach at the University of Tennessee Martin for seven years. Prior to his seven years as head coach, he was the interim head coach for the SkyHawks in 2007 and was the assistant coach in 2005 and 2006.

McClure's coaching record at four year institutions is 142-241 over eleven years. His Union overall record is 70-95 for five years.

In 2020, the season was shortened due to COVID. McClure led his team to a first place finish in the Group A regular season and a #3 seed in the GSC Spring Championship Series Tournament.

In 2019, McClure led the Bulldogs to a 21-12 record, clinching the No. 4 seed and a first round bye in the program's first Gulf South Conference Tournament appearance. He was honored as the GSC Coach of the Year.

In his third season at Union, McClure won his 100th career game against in the Virginia State University Classic over Alderson Broadduss University. In his first season at Union, McClure's team finished tied for sixth place in the Gulf South Conference (GSC), missing the team's first postseason tournament by a tiebreaker rule. Union was 10-19 overall and 9-11 in league play in 2015.

McClure led UT Martin to three Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament appearances in his seven years as coach. In 2011, he took his team to the OVC championship match, while also being named OVC Coach of the Year. During his time at UT Martin, McClure coached numerous OVC All-Conference players, along with an NCAA DI All-America honorable mentioned player. He posted a record of 76-146 at UT Martin.

No stranger to west Tennessee, McClure has spent all of his coaching career in Jackson and west Tennessee as the college, high school and club levels. Prior to joining the UT Martin coaching staff in 2005, he taught history at Martin Middle School and also led the University School of Jackson volleyball program. McClure also coached the Jackson Juniors Club Team to a second place region finish. He helped begin the Gotcha Volleyball Club in 2004, which later changed their name to the Jackson Juniors.

A 2006 graduate of UT Martin, McClure said, "I have recruited in Tennessee and across the mid-west for many years. I'm very excited to be able to use my resources with high schools and competitive club programs to recruit players and families to such a wonderful campus."

McClure has a wealth of playing experience in volleyball to accompany his coaching. He played five years for the Paducah Volleyball Club, leading his team to a pair of tournament victories. He also played for the Spike-It-Up Amateur Volleyball Tour, guiding his team to its highest finish of third place during a tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio.

McClure has attended the Gold Metal Squared Coaching Camp twice. During the clinic, he and other coaches worked with US Olympic team coach Carl McGowan and two-time Olympic gold medal winning coach Marv Dumphy.

McClure and his wife Jennifer have two sons, Miles and Carson.
