Union University Athletics

Gray Campbell was named the Union University men's and women's golf head coach in June 2026. He spent the 2025-26 season as an assistant coach for the programs under the leadership of veteran coaching legend, Andy Rushing.

As assistant coach in 2025-26, Campbell helped lead the teams to program best finishes in the Gulf South Conference Tournament. The men's matched its best finish in third place, while the women's team matched its best finish in fourth place. Lane Carr (2nd) and Abigail Fernandez (5th) both earned all-tournament honors. 

Campbell played four years of golf for the men's team from 2021-25. He was a major contributor to the team from his first event as a freshman. Campbell set the program record with 107 rounds played. As a senior, he was named GSC Player of the Week once, second team All-GSC, and GCAA Ping All-South Region. He finished 18th at the GSC Championship and was an individual qualifier to the NCAA D2 National Championship. He finished 13th in the regional, including a low round of 69. He played in 28 rounds, averaging a score of 71.5, and posted two top-3 finishes. As a junior, Campbell was a conference golfer of the week once, first team All-GSC, and GSC All-Academic. He finished fifth in the GSC Championship, earning all-tournament honors. He led the team to its first ever NCAA D2 National Championship bid. He played in 29 rounds with a 71.9 scoring average and was ranked No. 11 regionally and No. 82 nationally in Division II. He posted one win and five top-5's. He was named to the GSC Honor Roll all four years. 

In his personal golf career, Campbell advanced through 2023 US Open local qualifying with a 66(-6). He finished eighth (-2) in the Daiken Spirit of America Amateur in 2023 (73,71,73,65) and ninth (-2) in 2024 (73,69,70,70). He finished T-15 (-7) at the 2024 Tennessee Open (69-70-67), and finished T-9 (+2) at the 2026 Tennessee Amateur (67-71-70-74).

Campbell was homeschooled and played four years of golf for Crockett County High School. He helped lead his team to back-to-back region and district championships, as well as back-to-back third place finishes at state. Campbell was named second team All-West Tennessee as a sophomore and junior and first team as a senior. He also qualified for the Tennessee Junior Cup as a senior.
