2017...played and started in 15 games...recorded one goal and six shots with two shots on goal...2018..sophomore season 

Before Union
Virtala prepped at Stroembackaskolan High School. He has played soccer for 16 years, ice hockey for 11 years and floor ball for seven years while in Sweden. He helped lead is 2012 and 2016 teams to district titles. Virtala was selected as team captain for each team he played. Off the field, he was an assistant coach for the ice hockey summer camp team for children in 2013 and 2014. He was also chosen to attend the first step in UEFA Soccer Coach by his club in 2016. He has been a referee and is very active as a youth leader and teacher in his church.
