Before Union
Phelps prepped at Somerset Christian School where he played soccer. He helped lead his teams to the KCAA State Title and NACA Division 2 National Title. His teams also won tournament titles in the Nike Challenge Cup and the Music City Invitational. Phelps was named MVP, earned the Best Offense Award, KCAA Mr. Soccer, all-state, and all-tournament. He played in eight straight state championships. Off the field, Phelps was a member of the National Honors Society, all A honor roll, class vice president, and earned the Timothy Award.
