Kent Katzman joined the Union University men's soccer staff as assistant coach in January 2021. He is now in his second season with the Bulldogs.
Katzman came to Union after two seasons as the assistant coach at the University of Southern Indiana.
While at USI, Katzman assisted in all areas of the program. During his two years, he coached two all-region players and three all-conference players. He helped lead USI to a fifth consecutive NCAA postseason berth. Katzman also coached for the Indiana Fire Juniors, a local club team. He served as the assistant for the U18 and U19 teams and was head coach of the U11 team. Katzman is a member of the United Soccer Coaches Association.
Katzman is a 2018 graduate of Southern Indiana with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting. He earned his master's degree from USI in 2020 in Sports Management.
Katzman played four years at the center-back position for USI. In 2018, he was named team captain, second-team D2CCA All-MidWest Region, third team USC All-Region, and third-team Scholar All-Region. He was a four-time selection to the academic all-conference team. He helped lead his teams to two NCAA National Tournament appearances (2016, 2018), a 2018 GLVC Regular Season Title, and a 2017 GLVC Tournament runner-up finish. During the 2018 season, Katzman led a defensive backline who posted eight shut outs and a 0.98 goals against average on the year. The 2018 squad also finished the season ranked 15th in the final national poll; had captured their first regular season crown since 1990; claimed the #2 ranking in the Midwest Region (highest since 1982); and hosted the their first NCAA II Regional game since 1982 with a first round by in the National Tournament.
Katzman is a native of Nashville, Tenn., and graduated from Independence High School (Thompson Station, Tenn.) in 2014. He played soccer and football in high school, earning all-district honors in both sports and leading both teams to multiple postseason appearances. He and his wife Kelsey were married May 30, 2020 and welcomed their first child, Waylen, in June of 2022. They also have a dog.
