Before Union...Van Nes transferred to Union from Mercer University where she played one year of basketball helping her team to a Southern Conference Championship. Prior to her time at Mercer she played four years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She prepped for collegiate play at Hamden Hall Country Day school where she played both basketball and volleyball and led her basketball team to a NESCAC championship. She was awarded most improved player in 2015 and MVP in 2016. Off the court she was on the deans list at UNC.
