Josiah Filegar was named the new assistant coach for the Union University men's basketball program in May of 2023. Filegar filled the position held by Easton Bazzoli who accepted the same position at Gannon University.
Filegar joins Union after spending two seasons as the assistant coach at Trevecca Nazarene University from 2021-23. Prior to his time at Trevecca Nazarene, he spent the 2019-21 seasons at Liberty University as a student manager.
Filegar is a 2021 graduate of Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science degree in sports management. He added a Master's in Organizational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene in 2023. While at Liberty, the men's basketball team made appearances in the NCAA D1 Tournament in 2020 and 2021 after winning the Atlantic Sun Conference in both seasons.
For a large portion of his life, Filegar has been a part of a ministry in Belize. For eight summers in a row starting in the eighth grade, he participated in ministry that consisted of medical, construction, vacation Bible school, and discipleship. He was also able to lead a basketball camp for youth.
Filegar played basketball and baseball in high school. He is a native of Mechanicsville, Virginia, and is the son of David and Sharon Filegar.
